FAQs
- 1. I want to contest a parking citation. What do I do?
- If you want to contest your parking citation, you may do so by calling our processing agency (DataTicket) at (800) 989-2058 to receive information on requesting an administrative review of the citation. You will be given instructions telephonically. The process involves writing a statement to explain why you believe you should be excused from the citation. The processing agency will review your statement and make a decision as to whether to dismiss the citation. The decision will be based on your statement and the circumstances that led to the issuing of the citation. You will be notified in writing of the decision. You may also make an on-line inquiry or payment at www.ticketwizard5000.com.
- 2. Where is the Lost and Found Office?
- Students frequently turn in items found to offices such as the switchboard at the Administration Bldg., the Library, the Physical Education Dept., and the Cafeteria. These offices are required to bring the item found to the Campus Police Office, the official Lost and Found location, as soon as possible. A reasonable attempt will be made to locate the owner of the property. Property will be held for 90 days, and if the owner cannot be located, the item will then be destroyed if it has little or no value. If an item has significant value and remains unclaimed, it will be transferred to the local police department for eventual disposition.
- 3. How do I get a copy of a police report?
-
Come to the Police Office and fill out a “Public Record Access Request”
form. Submit the form to the On-duty officer. Copies of minor traffic
collision reports and minor thefts (for insurance purposes) can be
released on the same day the request is submitted. The cost for a copy
of a report is $5.00 for non-students and $3.00 for students. If you
are a suspect in a pending criminal matter, you or your attorney will
receive a copy of the report from the court at your arraignment.
- 4. How do I get a parking permit?
- If you are a student, you can purchase a semester permit at the Student Business Office of any of the colleges. You will need to fill out a short form, which requires you to provide your vehicle’s make, model and license plate number. Students and visitors can also purchase a daily permit for $1.00 from the permit dispensing machine(s) at various locations throughout the campus. Refer to the parking information section for more details. A daily permit is valid for the entire day in one of the student lots. Do not park in staff parking lots without a staff permit.
- 5. Is there an escort program?
- We currently have an escort program at Moorpark College coordinated by the Associated Student Body. See “Campus Escorts” on this website. For more information on this program call (805) 378-1400 ext.1635.
- 6. Can I carry pepper spray on campus for protection?
- Any adult may purchase and carry pepper spray (oleoresin capsicum)
for protection and defensive purposes. If you decide to carry pepper
spray and you are compelled to use it to defend yourself, follow these
guidelines after using the spray.
- Get out of the area. Run away from your attacker towards safety (an attacker may still be able to grab you even though he has been sprayed)
- Report the incident to the police immediately.
Misuse of tear gas or pepper spray weapons can be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or felony at the discretion of the District Attorney. It is a felony to use pepper spray against a peace officer engaged in official duties. - 7. Do you jumpstart vehicles and assist motorists in getting their keys out of their locked vehicles?
- Yes. We have a portable jump-start box that allows us to get your vehicle started if the problem is a dead battery. In order to assist you, you will be required to sign a waiver of liability since there is a possibility of damaging your vehicle.
